Image is everything in television, and the way your talent and property as a whole are perceived can make or break you. I believe what people are looking for is constantly changing, and all image scenarios should be handled on a case-by-case basis. What kind of person (or product) are we dealing with? Who is your target audience? What type of image are you trying to convey? These are all questions I consider before starting an image project.
KHOU Weather Multi-Platform
The challenge with this spot was to show off all of the different ways we provide weather to our viewers without taking everything away from those same viewers. I used real people in this spot (not actors), and while they were scripted, I do believe it helped us get away from the typical "bunch of weather guys talking in the studio" weather spot.

A look back at the year's most memorable stories. I have to admit, this particular Year Ender has a more "national" feel, but I believe that is because there were several national stories that had direct impacts on Houston (or at least had a Houston angle that we covered). At 11 News, severe weather coverage starts days before the storm. I created this promo to show the severe weather process in motion. All video, still, and audio elements were recorded during an actual severe weather event (several days of shooting). I then logged all of the audio and chose pieces that told a story of the event as it happened.

KHOU 11 News - Day In The Life This promo was designed to show how no matter where you are or what you're doing, KHOU 11 News is always within reach. Whether it's on television, on the radio, on the web, or on your mobile device, you'll always be in the know if you watch KHOU 11 News. I helped supervise the shoot for this spot, and I edited it in house. This spot was featured in the 2010 Superbowl on CBS.

The challenge with this promo was launching a franchise, which up until the launch date, had no work to its name. With no previous spots or examples of stories to work from, we decided to bring each member of the team to a studio for shooting. We had still and video photographers on hand, and from that shoot we gained a large library of images and video for each member of the team.

This was an attempt to hold viewers during key periods of 11 News This Morning. 2010 Year Ender
This spot wrapped up 2010 with a look back at the year's biggest and most memorable stories. This spot was a huge undertaking. It took weeks of pulling archive stories, logging them, and piecing them together like a 2-minute puzzle, with the end goal being a cohesive story that reminded everyone of what kind of year 2010 was. Spots like these are among my favorites to produce.

2009 Year Ender This spot aired at the end of 2009, designed as a look back at the most memorable stories of the year. This took days of consulting employees from all departments, asking them what they remembered, then pulling the stories and logging all of the audio. All that hard work paid off, though, when this spot allowed me to take home a 2010 Lone Star Emmy Award.

2011 Final Four Coverage
The Final Four brought huge crowds and millions of dollars into Houston. It also took place during the height of KHOU's graphic redesign, with the new look launching alongside the final games. This was one of the first promos to air with the new logo and look. Our goal was to come out of the gate bold and strong.

KHOU has enjoyed a multi-year, growing partnership with the Houston Dynamo. Part of that agreement is promotion of all games that air on KHOU's digital channel. To create this spot, I logged all of the previous season's Dynamo games, and then assembled the best video and audio elements.

This promo was created to generate excitement and anticipation for the upcoming Houston Dynamo season, while conveying to viewers that KHOU's digital channel was a great place to find several of the games. The visuals were a bit of a challenge for this spot, because the entire previous season had been recorded 4X3 on SD media, but the final spot was 16X9 HD.
