I believe television and the internet are merging into a combined medium. I also believe social media will play a huge role and be a driving force in the combination of these mediums. I expect this will lead to some drastic changes in the way we market ourselves and our products. That's why whether I'm creating spots promoting a facebook contest or a mobile app, or developing strategy for growing a bigger and more active audience online, I always make it a point to keep up with the latest trends and advances in web, mobile, and social media markets.
KHOU 11 App
This spot launched alongside an expansion of the KHOU app on iphone. The app expansion included Android and Blackberry devices. We decided to go heavy graphics with this spot for that extra "wow" factor, and we also decided to include QR codes so that anyone with a QR scanner on their smart phone could simply hold the phone up to the TV and instantly download the app.

IPad Facebook Contest
In an attempt to grow our fan base on Facebook, KHOU ran a contest giving away an Apple iPad to one lucky fan. I used the iPad as an integral part of the spot, in the hopes that even people watching on mute, or who saw the spot in passing, would recognize it and be interested. IPads were relatively new at the time this contest ran, and the contest was effective.
